Timber Machining

Our state-of-the-art machinery and experienced team of professionals can handle any timber machining project, big or small.

What is machined timber? Machined timber refers to timber that has been cut and measured to a specified profile or length. Furthermore, it can be painted, stained, or treated.

This offering enables us to provide a one-of-a-kind service, allowing you to design whatever project you desire.

Turning, milling, and drilling are the three main types of timber machining. Other processes can be classified as machining, although turning, milling, and drilling comprise the vast majority of modern machining techniques.

Looking for top-tier timber machining services? Look no further than Griggs Timber. From cutting and planing to moulding and shaping, we promise precision and accuracy in all of our work.

Drilling

Drilling is a machining process in which holes are bored into the raw material.

Drill presses are one of the most traditional methods of timber machining, but thanks to modern techniques and technology, drilling is significantly more sophisticated than when workers ran drill presses.

The most recent sieve can be created with great ease thanks to the accuracy and advancement of modern drilling processes, which can be controlled by computers to drill precise holes in materials.

Milling

Milling is a method that involves using rotating cuting tool to remove material from timber to achieve precise dimensions and smooth surfaces, preparing the wood for projects.

this typically involves making two oposite sides of a board flat and parallel. Unlike drilling, milling uses machinery that can cut a range of shapes, such as splitting raw materials in half and adding specific cuts.

turning

Turning is a method of machining in which one tool is spun against another, cutting or shaving the raw material.

While turning may resemble utilising a lathe (a type of machining used in the woodworking industry), it does not require human control of the tool.

Computers can control the tool that shapes the material after it has been rotated, improving safety and precision.

Treatment & Priming

Our busy treatment plant uses Protim ME7 to pressure treat timber. This is a tried-and-true way of preventing fungal deterioration and insect attack on internal and external timbers in aboveground applications. We also sell a selection of tanalised timber, which is great for outdoor use and may be utilised in a variety of applications.

We also provide a wood priming service to prepare your timber surface for various coatings. Our priming services protect the timber, prevent dust and moisture infiltration, and ensure a clean surface for coating adherence. It also creates a barrier layer between your coating and the timber, preventing the surface coating from being absorbed directly into the material.
